The Egg Contest

A few of the Big Girls in the coop stuck their heads out the pop door this morning, but it was way too cold to go out. Was this the freezer camp they talked about? A couple of the little white bantams went down into the chicken tractor, but they didn’t stay very long, either.

Back in the Big Coop, Barbara and a few of the other Big Girls held an egg contest. Most of the Big Girls had given up laying eggs until it got warmer and lighter, but Barbara and a few others kept on. Some of the girls didn’t realize it was a competition, so they just laid their regular egg. Barbara, however, put a lot of thought and effort into her egg. She really wanted to show those silly Ameraucanas what a Barred Rock could produce—Barred eggs!

A barred egg!! Seriously, isn't that very unusual? What could cause that marbled look? I hope her tummy wasn't upset, although she looks very pleased about life in general. Wish I could give her a hug!! I miss my Speckles chicken hugs SO much. Good job, Barbara!! Wonder what Santa is going to bring this special chickie girl??
