Making Changes

There were lots of changes at Barbara’s coop this week. Chickens were disappearing! The three Silly Ameraucana Sisters, Silver and Bob were gone, leaving the fourth one to be silly all by herself. Barbara did not know that they were just over at the Honeymoon Hotel, so she was afraid that Leroy was next. It certainly wouldn’t be her, Barbara, as there were few chickens as lovely as she! She spent extra time straightening up her stripes and bars and even spent time grooming Leroy. No sense taking any chances.

The Food Man has been busy building and installing nest boxes in the other side of the coop so Walter and his Wives can have a honeymoon suite on one side. Barbara eyed the new nest boxes with suspicion. They did not have the cute little curtains that the metal ones did. They did have nice fresh shavings in them and there was no poop on them. Maybe it would be okay to try one out.

Barbara hopped up and was surprised to find her Big Butt fit nicely in the new box. She closed her eyes and wiggled down into the shavings. Breathing the piney scent did keep her sinuses open. After a half hour of aromatherapy, Barbara produced her egg.

Then the door popped open! The girls ran to check out the weather. It was warm. . . .or warmer. . . .it certainly felt better. The girls scurried out the door and excitedly pecked at the ground looking for some new food. Layer crumbles got tiresome after a while.

Meanwhile, in the Main Coop, Baby Chickies were learning about life. Here is a picture of them learning how to drink:

How wonderful that Barbara's Big Butt fit the new nest perfectly!! What if all those layer crumbles had gone right to her rear and it wouldn't fit in the nest box!! I think I have an idea how Barbara felt about fitting in the nest. I always worry every summer when I dig out last year's shorts and see if the elastic still stretches enough after the season of eating to ward off the terrible cold (well, kind of cold here in sweaty summer Texas). Congratulations, Barbara!!

Poor Barbara having the size of her butt discussed all over the planet!

Luckily she has Mr Chickendad trained to make nestboxes to measure! As for the curtains - Well I'm sure she will be telling you if she decides she really wants them

Resolution

Barbara had tried her best to lay a blue egg. But day after day when she turned around, it was plain old brown. Leroy clucked softly and stayed nearby while she waited for her egg to appear.

After a couple days of using the new nest boxes, combined with the pine aromatherapy, Barbara had a thought. She could quit trying to lay blue eggs! The Silly Ameraucana Sisters laid blue eggs because they obviously had a hormone problem. The proof was their beards! Girls with beards couldn’t lay beautiful brown proper eggs. Barbara decided to be happy with what she has and who she is. It was a better New Year’s resolution than trying to lose her Big Butt.
