The adventures of Barbara (BR)

Oh I just love that picture of the baby sitting on mama's back! And I just love following Barbara's adventures

I definitely want a Barbara shirt!! It is so hard to find "chicken items" that show BR girls. I see tons of roosters, not very many hens and very, very few BR hen items. It will be one year July 1st since my sweet Speckles left us and I can't believe how very, very much we still miss her. Maybe next year, if my sweetie husband's health problems are better, we can get more BRs. I love reading about Barbara and all the other funny chickies on BYC. Thanks, Mrs. Chickendad for your wonderful stories!

The Evil Cochin Twins

It was a busy, busy weekend last week. The Chickendads built and moved pens to contain all the babies. They moved all the Little Boys into their own coop, while the Little Girls moved to the breezeway pen so they could use the cat door to go outside. There was lots of confusion and squawking as the Teenagers got used to their new social groups and made new friends.

Mrs. Chickendad thought she would try putting a couple of the Young Adult Bantam Boys in with the Teenage Boys to see if they could get along. It was not a good idea. The Evil Cochin Twins terrorized the Teenagers, most of whom were much bigger than the Twins. The Boys ran and flapped and squawked as the prissy little Twins chased them, their lacy black and white panty feathers trailing behind. They were about as fierce-looking as marshmallows, but the Teenagers were hormonal and insecure of their manhood and allowed themselves to be intimidated.

When she realized the Evil Twins were causing a problem, Mrs. Chickendad stepped into the pen to catch and remove them. She was immediately swarmed by twenty panicked Teenage Boys, flying up on her head, shoulders and back. When she put her hands out, they flew up and landed on her arms. Finally she had to sit down and holler for rescue. Chickendad came out and burst into laughter. He said she looked like the Bird Lady in “Mary Poppins.”

The Teenage Boys have settled down a bit since, but they are convinced that the new coop with the lovely perches and fresh straw is the home of the Evil Cochin Twins, so they will not go in at night. Instead they all perch on an apple crate and take turns pushing each other off, like Teenage Boys on a diving board. The Chickendads have had to put them in the coop by hand for the past FOUR nights and it is getting old. Actually, so are the Chickendads, especially when it doesn’t get dark until 9:30 or later.

Hopefully, this teenage phase will not last too much longer. The Wheaten boys are moving out this weekend, so that will leave more space on the apple crate.

Barbara and Leroy enjoyed snacks of delicious watermelon rind, courtesy of the Neighbor Next Door. Of course, there was enough to share with everyone and Mrs. Chickendad now has to go out and pick up all the rolled up pieces of watermelon rind that are left. The Teenagers were afraid of the watermelon at first—they were chicken. Pretty soon, though, they realized that it would not kill them, especially after several of the Boys stood on it and washed their feet in the juice. The Chickendads figure that the teenagers will get settled down just about when it is time to move the pen to a different location and the uproar will start all over again.

As for the Evil Cochin Twins, they have been relegated to the Anger Management Department, Bully Division.

A STORY! A STORY! A STORY!

Beautiful boys. Although naughty, still beautiful.

Loved the story, I can just see you (don't know what you look like, but I can just see you being mobbed by the Teenagers.
