The adventures of Barbara (BR)

Dear Mrs.Chickendad - here is my southern belle Barbara or is she *&%$*##* Bob!? Please say it ain't so! I'm already in love with her, him, whomever! And if she is Bob, she goes back to the fella she came from and will be Rotisserie Bob. If you say I must wait a while to see evidence of either, I will. This chick has such personality. I don't know her age - 8 to 12 weeks, perhaps.

Oh my, Caroline, you have done it now! Another barred rock with attitude!

Not being an expert on barred rocks I can only venture a guess that your baby is a Barbara. The current information I have is that the girls look darker than the boys because their black stripes are wider than the white stripes, while the Barbecue Bobs are the opposite. If "Barbara" is indeed 8 weeks of age or older, the wattles would be redder and more developed if she was destined for the grill.

Hopefully your lovely girl will not disgrace Barbaras everywhere by crowing or any such other tacky male behavior. Congratulations!

I agree. My BR developed their equipment fast. I have a little BR roo and he has shiny saddle and hackle feathers....those feathers are also more narrow and hairlike than the rest of the feathers. He is, like stated MrsChickendad, not as light as a male BR. I will try to post a pic sometime tomorrow of my BR littleman roo. The one I posted earlier in this thread was taken w/ my cell so it is fuzzy.

Oh, thank you, Mrs.Chickendad and Justuschicks - I'll quit worrying now! This fella who sold me four roos a couple of swaps ago, got them back in trade for Babs. Now if her crate-mates don't turn on me, we will have more girls for Hunner. I think we are the opposite of the Chinese - girls are way more valuable!

Hmmm. I think if this little Bab turns out to be BBQ Bob, I wouldn't buy from that person again. BR's are pretty easy to sex when hatched. If this person has that hard of a time telling the difference, he doesn't know his stuff.

I got a Barred Rock chick last week - her name is Barbarella, queen of the coop.

Couldn't bring myself to name her Barbara because, well, there's only One True Barbara!

Don't know if it is just the angle but Barbara sure does have a large comb. I love that stage of feathering.
