The adventures of Barbara (BR)

Oh no! Not another attack!

I too lost a special chicken. My very first chicken I ever hatched. He hatched on Thanksgiving last year right as we were sitting down to dinner. He was free ranging that afternoon and when i went out in the evening to put him in I found a few of his feathers on the ground by my pens. My heart sunk as I started my search for him. I finally found him in the woods behind my pens surrounded by a TON of feathers. I suspected a predator or my husbands stupid dog....which he had let out forgetting that my bird was out. Well I got my glock loaded and charged my night vision camera for my revenge that next evening. Well I was out tending to my birds when my son noticed some dog poop filled with feathers. Needless to say, I think my husband and I are going to be on that show "Me or the dog".

Hi, birdlover, I was referring to the story on page 178 - I guess I made it sound like MrsChickendad is an artist who paints, but I was really just envisioning what those Young Boys must look like as they engaged in their growing up activities!

@ Caroline - Thanks! I read that story but I forgot it immediately so it was fun reading it again!

@ Jamie - Where do you live in Va.? I may want to purchase a few pullets from you next Spring. Loved looking at your webpage!

The patient is still with us, but I am pessimistic about his chances. I think he has some sort of abscess deep inside. He drinks and drinks but does not each much. He stands up on both legs, but holds his head off to the side. Something just isn't right. He seems to eat the "recipe" better than regular feed. As he isn't contagious, I put him in a cage up on the top tier hoping to keep him interested in his surroundings. Just going to have to wait it out.

The killer critter has not yet been caught. I have tried cat food, raw bloody beef liver, dead chicken and KFC chicken bones (tonight) as trap bait. I expect that we will trap one of our own cats if they get outside, they LOVE KFC!
