The Adventures of Featherdust Flock

Pics
I've heard Fayoumi (not sure of spelling) breed is quite resistant to Mareks. Someone who has been very hard hit by it - is looking to get some. She hopes she can breed some resistance into her flock - if she has any survivors.

The new babies are growing SO FAST! We sadly did lose the smallest, very weak chick, after about a week of trying to help her get going. I think she may have had developmental problems as she had a big scab from her egg yolk sac and she had trouble from the start. We are very sad that she didn't make it, but she was warm and comfy and surrounded by her siblings... all of whom were very sweet to her.

That brings me to the rest... they are SO sweet! Both with us and with one another. I haven't had a lot of chickens in my life but these chicks have really impressed me with how nice they are. They love to pile into my hands and aren't afraid of me at all, and even though they are now getting to be the age where they are zooming and leaping all over one another, they seem to pause and gently preen one another when they accidentally collide. It's really cute and I hope that their gentle natures continue as they mature. If what I've read about this breed is true, they should... time will tell!

This little girl is actually the largest of the group, and very confident! She loves to sit with us. I suspect she might be boss hen material in the making...

I almost forgot! Here's a funny story. A few of my friends wanted to watch live streaming video of the chicks as I mentioned in a prior post. I figured a way to make it public on youtube, and without thinking for a moment what it might sound like to non-chicken-people, I named the stream "CHICK CAM".... well, because it was chicks! However, to youtube's automated system, I think it read it a bit differently (think: hot chicks on spring break sort of material...) and I got banned!! How funny! Well, maybe not funny for me, since being banned isn't a great thing. I have to wait until July or if anyone ever reads my appeal (I doubt it). So I set up a daily live stream on a service called Twitch TV. If any of you ever want to tune in, here's the link. If you scroll down below the video, I have some further information, too. https://www.twitch.tv/nambroth

Oh no!! That's hilarious.
Well hopefully once it does get to a human they will realize right away that was incorrect. Baha

I think over the years I have lost most of the Derperella fans to the ether! That's okay, life gets at us all.

Yesterday while cleaning the brooder, the chicks were out briefly. These chicks are so friendly! They all had to be on my arms (and legs) for a giant cuddle puddle. All 9 chicks were on me! Here are some cellphone photos my husband took.

Hello Jennifer! Tonight my daughter and I were talking about, of all things, Derperella! "I wonder how Derp is? The rest of the flock?" "Let's log onto BYC and look!" TaDAH! A new thread! So happy to read through and see your new babies, thank you for sharing!
