We got our first ever batch of chicks today. So exciting. I wasn't expecting to get them so soon. I wanted to wait until the geese were moved out and feathered. So we will be brooding chicks (only 6) and then our goslings. Not together but at the same time. And we do all this in our house. hahha! I think of all our fowl- I am most excited about the geese and I have been pretty darn excited about all of them...so that's saying alot. :D

Your chineese geese are gorgeous, and cute, too! I have a 2-1/2 year old male white chinese. We named him "Mambo." He is beautiful. He lives in my Mom's backyard because she has a fence, and we do not have proper quarters for him yet. I see him everyday, though, and am his caretaker. My main problem with him is that he has imprinted on my Mom and is very protective of her. He is also very aggressive with me! We kid that I am just his "pool-girl" and servant. However, it does bother me that he doesn't accept me like he does my Mom. We keep him in the garage overnight where I have a pen set up for him with nice hay, a big bucket full of water, and scratch corn. Every night, my Mom leads him thru the house to the garage, and he follows her like a gosling to his mother. Adores her.

Any ideas as to how I may get him to bond more with me? He has known me on a daily basis since July 2010.

Thanks!
Cindy

I would say spending more time with him, of course this will be a lot easier when you get your fence set up. But try wearing your mom's shoes when you visit, since I notice that they seem to recognize when we wear different ones. Your mom's shoes might help since Mambo is more used to them. Of course, that wont fool him, he'll still know you're not "mom". Try bringing treats with you so that he'll associate you as the Treat Lady. Even though he's known you since '10, I think the amount of time you spend with him is also a factor.

Thanks, goingbonkers, for the advice. I will give it a try! Nice to know that eventually when he lives with me that he may change his attitude towards me.

Out of the brooder: Beautiful brown chinese geese! I had one that animal control forced us to give away. He had a long history with me...he was my boy. I miss him so.
