I love the pic of Sissy she looks so dedicated and serious. they all are beautifulTwo photos today: #1 is Sissy on her nest. She started laying early. I made the decision to move it from underneath the hedge where there was no ability to protect her or her nest at night to a nice spot in the garage next to their pen. She took it in stride. Every other day she walks out of the pen in the morning and straight to her nest. I've not checked it for a while, but Dave says there is 6 eggs in there. Sissy's posse of 3 ganders stand by while she's in there. All five of the ganders are pretty protective of their girl, but those 3 are especially.
We are looking to add more females to the flock. This being their first year here, we will be adding more girls this coming spring.
This is Percy in the one pool that is kept open. Fortunately a warm spell made those large chunks of ice melt. I was also able to get that blue pool emptied and put away. I'm guessing that the only reason the pink pool has enough water in it in the mornings to allow me to dump it out and refill is the fact that it is actually 2 pink pools nested inside one another. During the summer, I had 4 baby pools and one larger + deeper wading pool filled and cleaned every day. Once it got cooler, I reduced the number of open pools and just threw one of them inside the other.
This morning I was a bit slow in refilling the pool and Percy honked loudly until I got to it. His honk is unique among the gaggle. He says loudly, "OCKLE!" emphasis on the O. We call him our Big Buck Goose.
