The African and Chinese goose thread!!

Pics
Two photos today: #1 is Sissy on her nest. She started laying early. I made the decision to move it from underneath the hedge where there was no ability to protect her or her nest at night to a nice spot in the garage next to their pen. She took it in stride. Every other day she walks out of the pen in the morning and straight to her nest. I've not checked it for a while, but Dave says there is 6 eggs in there. Sissy's posse of 3 ganders stand by while she's in there. All five of the ganders are pretty protective of their girl, but those 3 are especially.

We are looking to add more females to the flock. This being their first year here, we will be adding more girls this coming spring.

This is Percy in the one pool that is kept open. Fortunately a warm spell made those large chunks of ice melt. I was also able to get that blue pool emptied and put away. I'm guessing that the only reason the pink pool has enough water in it in the mornings to allow me to dump it out and refill is the fact that it is actually 2 pink pools nested inside one another. During the summer, I had 4 baby pools and one larger + deeper wading pool filled and cleaned every day. Once it got cooler, I reduced the number of open pools and just threw one of them inside the other.

This morning I was a bit slow in refilling the pool and Percy honked loudly until I got to it. His honk is unique among the gaggle. He says loudly, "OCKLE!" emphasis on the O. We call him our Big Buck Goose.
I love the pic of Sissy she looks so dedicated and serious. they all are beautiful

Hank with his Longtime love. She is no longer with us and he has not paired with anyone else. She disappeared 1 1/2 years ago. He is most dominant goose ever and ran the entire park when he was there. He and others that we have rescued now live with us. We have made quite the sanctuary for them! I wonder if I need to get a female Chinese swan gooses for him??

How sweet, especially you rescuing them, how many have you rescued? Bless you for all your efforts. Breaks my heart to see the geese and ducks that are abandoned. Always nice to see that someone cares.

Thanks!! Well we initially fell in love with the big white goose on the right. They were dumped at the park as the majority of these birds are. I mean how can you just dump those birds there? The park is totally overpopulated and inundated by fishermen that leave their hooks and lines on the ground only for the birds to get tangled up in later. Plus everyone chases the birds! There is really nothing for them to eat in the winter, no grass, etc. We bought a piece of land last year to live on and bring the geese. We have many injured birds that live with us-one has one eye, one is missing a foot, etc. We have a friend that works at the park and she comes to us anytime there is an injured bird. If anyone on here would like to adopt, let me know. I'm in Las Vegas. Trying to find a home for a beautiful pair. The male fights terribly with one of our other males-the one that has one eye' Ray Ray. He's had a hard enough life already.

I sure hope you get some attention to the plight of these birds, I wish you all the best in finding forever homes for them. And hope some one who lives close by will give this pair a forever home. Again Bless you for caring enough to do something.

You can get him another Chinese goose, or goose of any breed really. Geese can & do mate with geese of other breeds. Some geese even choose mates that aren't even geese! Silly geese.

As far as your rescues go, you might find adopters if you check the "Buy Sell Trade" section on here. This is what it looks like

Those green things are my attempt at drawing asterisks, freestyle. Once you post a listing, you can put a link on your signature so more people can see it! I hope you find a home for them soon

I will check it out!!! That's great thanks. As for a mate, we have quite a few females-he has not bonded with any and continues to lead the family. I might try a female like his old mate- maybe he has a preference to white Chinese Swan females-lol

My Chinese geese. I have two females and one male. The male is the one on the left and the one in the second picture. They are so funny, they strut all over and boss the everyone around. The females are just starting to lay.
