The African and Chinese goose thread!!

Wasn't there someone in here that had good quality Africans (that lived in Northern Cali. i'd prefer to pick the eggs up rather than ship)? I have hatchery Africans and we do want some more but I would prefer to let my goose sit on some quality African eggs. I love our geese but we really want the gorgeous dewlaps they are missing in their breediing.

Ninya started laying eggs in Nov 15. She has laid an egg every other day except twice when she went two days between.
So 35 eggs later, when should she stop or will she?
Her eggs are gorgeous and Charlie is very protective when she is in the coop laying her egg. she covers it with straw and comes out for her morning swim.
I know the eggs are fertile, but because of her problem with slipped tendon when she was adopted, I won't let her hatch her own eggs just in case it is a genetic rather than an environmental issue.
Neither will sleep in their coop at night, but Ninya does go in during the day.
Then

And now
700

and eggs a pullet, a large Australorp and then Ninya's egg

How big was Ninya's first couple eggs? I am pretty sure my girl just laid one. My ducks don't lay eggs bigger than 90 grams (and that's freakishly large for them) most of their eggs range from 60-78 grams. 80 on a good day with my Pekins. The one that was laid today was very big, the shell was insanely thick, the yolk was as big as a chicken egg and it was covered in a thick thick bloom. It weighed 114 grams. I've never seen such a thick shell in my life. I had to bang it hard on my granite counter and then try to pry it open once I made headway.

What do you do about the slipped tendon? I noticed my goose today was also favoring her right leg. That is brand new. :( She's only about 10 months old I think.

JenC is in northern Cali and breeds show quality browns, whites and buffs.

Ninya & Charlie have grown into a beautiful (and handsome) pair of geese. Congratulations on the eggs! Mine layed about 12 in October (I think it was Oct) and then stopped. I'm going to see if I can find how many eggs the breed usually lays in The Book of Geese - i think I remember seeing it there.. it just takes a while to load on my computer. My goose hasn't started laying again, but her little pouch between her legs has dropped, so I think she'll be laying again soon.

Are Ninya's legs better now, or does she still have that tendon issue?

I have 2 goose and 1 gander, he has been mating both but giving one (the larger more developed girl) more attention. She has a nest that has 8 (maybe 9) eggs in it and has been staying on it since the 2nd. I dont think the other one has started laying yet, she is obviously less developed than the other girl. The gander has started giving her more attention the last few days and I am watching for her to nest. This is their first mating season they are last years spring hatch. Assuming they are fertile, what are the odds of her hatching something? (and when should I expect something?)

It takes 30 days of incubation for eggs to hatch. Winter temps also play a factor, goslings generally hatch in the spring, but some can hatch in late winter, just depends on how cold it is. Good luck!!

I think I am the one you are thinking of. I have show quality brown, buff and white Africans. I am also the one you got your Bantam BLRW pair from
