A question:
I have had geese for years but never noticed this....Will a dominant gander breed (or attempt to breed) an adolescent gander to show his dominance or if I have seen this, is my adolescent is a goose rather than a gander? Just asking because I have extra ganders to move and if the youngster is female I'll keep an extra male for her.

Thanks

Yep not good, our gander use to pop our dog on the butt as it ran by, well she got tired of it one day and got him in the chest thank goodness all she got was feathers but that was too close so now when dogs and geese are together I use a long mop handle and put it between them if geese looks like they may go after dogs.

Heres my 3 brown chinese goslings. I think i have one gander and two geese. They are 3 1/2 mos old now. What do you guys think they are?
The front one is the one i think is a gander. Its HUGE

8 your goslings are looking great. I love seeing all the different breeds of geese on here! Sorry I can not tell yet what sex they are. Remember the ganders knob is much larger then the females. It is hard to see the other two in the pictures. That is all I know about this breed. Novice on other breeds.

Thanks Ruru! All of them are growing up so fast, im running out of babies.
I had been going on knob size but with Dixie(the big one) being a week older than the other two i wasnt sure if a week would be much of a difference anymore.
Dixie does have a bigger knob coming in and body wise, is the size of my yearling toulouse pair. He/she is a big one. The other two not so much of a knob yet and a bit smaller.

Well is the one your thinking is gander walking around with his head in the air? that's usually a pretty good clue. I don't see how my gander keeps from hurting himself, he never looks where he's going. he's even stepped on a few ducks before. They sure are pretty 8.

Not really. Compared to the way their dad walks around they are all girls. Their honks seem low too do they get higher as the age?

How old are they? since Sam is over 6 yrs now I don't remember when he started walking more upright, and I don't think their voices change Sam's is still higher pitched than Missy's. So maybe you hit the jack pot and got all girls. that would make me happy.

They will be 4 mos old Aug 21st. I wish i was that lucky. While im at it ill dream that the other 9 are girls too lol I cant remember the milestones for my toulouse pair either and they are only a year old. Neither of those layed eggs or tried to mate this year so im still guessing. They dont honk much anymore either.
