What temperatures are they safe in for the winter? What should I feed them. What breed is it( somebody all ready covered that) just the basic need to know info for caring for it. We love it here at the marina. It swims around and everybody talks to it and it seems to recognize people. It gets so excited when I'm walking down the dock in the morning honking up a storm! Is is very cute and has a lot of personality and will allow you to hold her. He generally sleeps under a dock that is mostly blocked form wind and rain. If I didn't have 4 dogs I would take her home. But he has made friends with all the other wild mallards and farm ducks and LOVES the lakes. It's amazing to see her drive under water to cool off. I am located in North GA. Thanks guys!

They are very hardy animals and can handle low temps but would appreciate a place out of cold wind. some just make a 3 sided covered shed for their geese, here mine would be dead from predators I have to lock everyone up at night. Just like all water fowl it needs a good quality feed either for water fowl or chickens they also like corn but not as sole diet. and bread is a no no alot of people feed bread to ducks and geese but it has no nutrition at all. Geese are amazing. I'm glad to hear it's fitting in so well. Just watch children do not tease or injure him/her. How do the rest of the water fowl fair over winter?The goose will do the same.

Forgot to add geese love to graze so if there is grass around you'll find it likes to eat it. hopefully not with chemicals sprayed on it.

Oh, they do great in the winter (you see mine in the snow in the picture, lol) I keep white and brown chinese, and embden geese. Just make sure they have a bucket of water handy to dunk, it helps them to preen and groom. They also clear the nostrils this way. They are exactly the same needs as ducks, I house my pekin with my geese. The goose house is the black thing top left corner. Here is one of the coldest days last year so I am putting hay down for them. My grow up pen was empty, but its where my young birds learn to be outdoors before comingling with their flock. an all flock feed is ideal, I ferment all my birds food.

He is supposed to be an african, but was hatchery stock from Meyer. Sooooo yea, he is a mix african/chinese. I got 4 last year all ganders from them! Also added 4 Embden. I rehomed 3 "african" ganders to a vet that keeps a large commercial waterfowl and poultry farm, he was having hawk issues. My other 3 boys and several of their goslings reside with him now. No more losses from hawks, and they are really spoiled rotten! We visit his farm pretty often. He reminds me of Dr Pol on tv, what an awesome vet. My remaining fella is a very good doting father and excellent in caring for his goose hens. Either way, I love geese, and its pretty exciting to find someone that understands why.
If I give up my goslings or adult birds I want to know they are well cared for. I could not have found a better choice to rehome them. I hope to find someone locally that raise Africans, but am learning its very difficult to get them as a pure breed. I may have to go with hatching eggs next spring. Anyone, who is a good contact to find a true line of African geese?

Oh yes, several! I only hatched for about 2 months, raised 35 and kept 8 of them. The rest went to my friend that's a vet. We traded, he raises hogs also. I now have 4 piglets, one is for food and the other 3 are breeders.
