The African and Chinese goose thread!!

Okay thanks very much! I can't wait for mine to feather out! How old were yours when they grew their feathers out?
By the way, I live in Minnesota, will the geese need a heat lamp in winter? It gets to like 20 below fairly often.
Feathering is usually full in by 5-6 months. If they have dry secure shelter without drafts, they dont need heat. the do need a bucket of water at all times to preen, keep nasal passages clear, and drink.

Welcome fellow Minnesotan!! U should join us at the Minnesota thread!! I only give heat when my birds look cold. This is my first year with geese but mine r going in a lil' goose coop I'm making thats uninsulated. I might put them in my Cochin coop this winter but haven't decided. Good luck and I hope u get some more answers!

They r getting so big!!!

The one with the long thin neck is in front and I think gander and the back has a shorter thicker neck and I think goose. Any ideas??

Could you send me the link to the MN thread? You have quite the assortment of birds there! I can't wait until my pair gets that big! It looks like male and female, but it is hard to tell without seeing their behavior, like the way they walk and stuff.
