The African and Chinese goose thread!!

Where in the states are you from? I thought Canada geese weren't hard to get there :L
I guess it depends on the habitat around you.
Greylagxembden geese will give white males that fly and I think seeing white geese fly is amazing!
Minnesota. Wild Canada geese are everywhere, but for some reason they are hard to get. I would LOVE to have them, but finding a pair for a reasonable price is rare. Do you have any pictures or videos of those geese?

Pics of the crosses or the flock I used to have? I guess I can get a few pics ;)

The mom is the brown (roman tuftxgreylag female the male is the big white Greylagxembden and all their kids could fly except for the male pilgrim gosling with the grey on his feathers.

This is another Greylagxembden gander who had very powerful wings.

The mother was the Roman tuftxgreylag and the father was a Pomeranian she was a really good flyer and was very small and was sold to a manager (along with five other geese) who wanted geese on a lake at a golf course.

Some of my Embden geese flew too.

Wow they are beautiful! I especially like the ones with patches of gray and black! It looks like you had to clip a couple of their wings, did some try to leave?

Here in Indiana, Canadian Geese are considered a nuisance. We live across from an old gravel quarry. now a park, and see hundreds literally. Personally I love to see them but I adore goose breeds, period. Graceful, just beautiful birds. I had a Canadian hen just decide she likes me and visited often last year. They will roost on our barn roof, lol.
I just love to watch the geese in general. The Canadians are impressive graceful birds.

None of my geese ever tired to leave one got over excited every year and flew him but didn't have landing space and flew over the house to the sports pitch across the house. First year it was impossible to get him back as he flew further. Once we got him back he did it constantly but knew the way home so he flew over acres of fields back home

I clipped the wings of the crosses embden geese so fighting wasn't going to be a problem. If you clip ganders wings they go to 100% wing strength to 50 or 40% wing strength. This prevented injurys and only did it when winter was over

Greylag geese wouldn't be that close with people. They stay at lakes all the time and sleep on them. They are also much heavier then Canadian geese.
I never had a visit from any wild goose ever since I moved to Ireland

Hello everyone. I've been lurking and reading. With all the talk about the beautiful Canadian geese I thought I'd share a little story. We have a lake on our horse farm where a Canadian geese couple had their nest of eggs one spring. I would check on them daily and always admired how the gander would keep watch over his goose and patiently wait nearby as she broods the eggs. I e day when I walked down to check on them I was horrified to see that a fox had killed the poor goose and feathers were everywhere. She was killed defending her nest and the gander was beside himself. Fortunately, the nest appeared untouched. Without really thinking, I gathered up the eggs and ran to a local feed store to purchase an incubator....a Styrofoam Little Giant (I had no clue what I was doing). I read the instructions and put all 12 of her eggs in hoping for the best. Well, a few weeks later, ALL 12 gosling hatched!! I made them a baby pen and as they got older I let them roam the farm. They were adorable. One day I came home from running errands and all 12 of them were gone! I can only hope that they saw a flock flying overhead and took flight with them. There was no evidence of any attack by a predator, they just disappeared... I was at a different farm that we had purchased, so they were a good ways from where their parents had lived.
Anyway, that was my 9nly experience with Canadian geese. We are in North Carolina and have loads of them around in town and out in rural areas near water.
I am currently incubating 3 goose eggs....possibly Chinese African mix or ourebreed. Not sure. They came from a mixed flock. I rescued a sweet, stray toulouse goose last week whose mate had been hit and killed in a road. A neighbor in the area had posted about her plight and now she is happily settling in on our farm, far from any busy road.

I love to see them too, every time I hear them fly over I rush out to see them! I wish I could get some to land in the yard, but my gander always scares any away that are coming in for a landing.

Oh that would be scary! When Elizabeth flies somewhere new I usually panic, run out to find her, then when I go back home to see if she is there, she always is!

Oh, I see. How does that decrease their strength?

How much do Greylags weigh? I've heard of Canada ganders reaching 14-15 pounds.

That's amazing they all hatched! Hopefully they found a flock and were able to make it in the wild! Do you have any pictures of the Canadas or your domestic geese?

What a touching story, congrats saving those goslings! I love my geese so much, can't imagine not keeping them.
