Lovely. Love looking at baby chicks. Congratulations.
5moore, what fun!!!!! How cute are they!
draye, How goes it by now with the hatch?
My chick has a very nice wide stance. That bodes very well for his/her size.
We had hurricane force winds last night. About 34,000 people are without power and being in the country I am sure we're not high on the priority list. I had the chicks in separate brooders with my BSX/SSX chick inside my craftroom with 6 pullets in a large black tub under the EcoGlow50. The others were in an uninsulated part of the shop with regular heat lamp. Power went out about midnight and I didn't wake up till 3:30 a.m. I got all 7 kids out of bed, plus the DH and we dashed out to the shop to start the generator and move all the chicks into the craftroom. Did not lose even 1 chick!!!! I couldn't believe it! This morning we moved the large brooder to the craftroom and put them all in the big brooder as they were a bit cramped but they did fit under the EcoGlow. Now they are happy and warm and eating like pigs. Our electricity isn't supposed to be back on until Monday. Perfect timing to raise chicks. Our inside freezer is unplugged temporarily so I can use the internet! We haven't had an outage for a long while but this time of year things get a little dicey. Just my luck the chicks have only been home 4 days!
draye, my one little Buff/Speckled mix looks very much like your Aloha in the very bottom pick on the right. Same head spot.
I love seeing the chicks too.
Our power finally came back on -- they didn't expect it to be back on until Monday but crews came from out of town to help so we got lucky. I'm leaving all the chicks in my craftroom in case of further outage we don't have to tear it all down and put back up.
I'm not sure what matings she sent me. She had 18 marked as from the NN and there were twenty from the rest of the Alohas. Anything that didn't hatch out NN I am calling Aloha as they should inherit the mottling gene.
I'm so hoping I get some of them that turn out mottled as that is what I'm working for in the NN I'm planning on calling them Calico NN.
