Hi Fluphy Feather! Welcome!

The birds in the last photo look like my Buff Sussex crossed with a Speckled Sussex. She is getting those black feathers on her neck and is a similar brownish color. I can see the hints of white in all your birds. Cool stuff!

alohachickens, I had the kids color the Aloha hen's vent with blue food coloring so I could be sure I was correct in which eggs I thought she was laying. It worked a treat but then, guess what I found back in the kitchen cabinet?

I can't believe - you predicted that one perfectly! Oh my gosh!!!

But - it DID work? How long did the eggs stay blue?

Hi all! Posting a few pics of some of my flock that I have 'accidently' stumbled upon some interestingly colored chicks. I was gifted a New Hampshire Red we named Ricky, I have 2 speckled Sussex, Rose and Lil Bit, and a Naked Neck named Sharlet, among others. When we began hatching from Ricky I noticed all these pretty colors! So my search began and I found Aloha chickens! Wow! I love seeing all the other pics, hope this first generation of ours is half as cute!

This Buff color on your Turken works GREAT for adding spots! The darker legs are a bummer but this hen is awesome shape / size!

Yellow legs???

Well it looks like you have all the right ingredients in front of you! The Naked Neck will help lighten up the color, the Sussex adds some spots, and your rooster is handsome with good size.

Right now I'm sitting on a TON of eggs and I'm trying to save some room in the 'bator for a special breeding pen that I set up. Know anyone driving from Phoenix to Snowflake ASAP? If you need hatching eggs, now is the time to get them! I'd be happy to pass on a few dozen if you have an incubator.

Also I have Aloha chicks here now, and more hatching May 7th. If you can find a ride for them, I would be happy to give you FREE chicks. Just let me know, you have the perfect mini-flock to add Alohas to. Any girls from your flock would cross nicely with a spotty Aloha rooster, and your rooster would be lovely with spotty Aloha hens. :)

It did work! She laid an egg, nicely streaked with blue, then the weather changed (cooler) and she stopped laying. Today it warmed a bit but tomorrow starts a run of warmer temps so she'll start laying again. We're adding more blue dye in the morning and then we'll see how long it lasts. I'll let you know.
