I'm hoping to post pictures later of my hatchery-bought Ameraucana. The description in their magazine said that their chicks are a cross between Araucana and Ameraucana- does this mean that my little chick can't be considered 100% Ameraucana? Despite what the Standard says, she looks like the prettiest bird I've ever seen. I did some research, and the brown ones look almost identical to her.



Also, what do EE, Amie, and SOP mean? I'm fairly new at this...

I forgot to mention that SOP stand for: Standard Of Perfection. This is the criteria by whiched chicken breeds are judged and the standard of traits that breeders strive to produce in their stock.

Just built my separate ameraucana coop, that I will breed them in! =) Just need to finish painting it, and it will be done! Until the ameraucanas are old enough to go out, I will use is as grow out coop for the larger birds.

My 1st batch of chicks should be heading to there pen soon good thing my DH is working on it today! Haha the run will still be weeks until the snow melts ugh!

Hello All, I have two Ameraucana chicks that I bought at TSC that are aproximately 4 weeks old today. I was wondering if you can help me figure out if they are roosters or hens? I'm not sure if that is possible based on their coloring, but I thought it might be worth asking. I have labeled the two in question. The one on the left is a red/brown/black combo, and the other is a white, brown, black combo. The blurry white one is also an Ameraucana but I'm pretty sure she is a hen. Thank you for any possible information.

They look like pullets, but those are very pretty EEs, nit ameraucanas. Oh, My oldest, brown egg layer ameraucana went broody! She is brooding on wood though. If I move her, will that break her of her broodiness?
