The AMERAUCANA thread

Pics
It is very possible that they are not purebred. The legs aren't as green as the picture makes them, but they are still a bit green. My friends got theirs from a Ameraucana TSC bin, which we all know the stuff about TSC 😒.

Here is the father, which he is a mixed color. He has the right leg color.

Here is one of the mothers. I don't have a picture of her legs, but she also has the right leg color.

And this is the other mother. She must be the culprit, since she has greenish legs.

I wonder if they threw an EE in their Ameraucana bin (since they are a similar looking breed, and tend to be confused all the time (even by me I guess🙃), and the light mother is the daughter of an EE?
I believe TSC, which commonly stocks from Hoovers hatchery most often, doesn’t sell true ameraucanas, but instead just easter eggers. A lot of hatcheries will label easter eggers as americanas though, and Mcmurray even goes so far as to sell their Easter eggers as actual ameraucanas.

The similarities and mislabeling are why some ameraucana breeders are so rigid about what qualifies as an actual ameraucana. Some people on FB will say anything that doesn’t breed 50% true color wise isn’t an ameraucana.

Apart from exhibition purposes though(in which easter eggers can not partake), and the guarantee of blue eggs(which easter eggers do not have), the differences become minute because of how similar easter eggers look to ameraucanas.

Well I was under the impression I had a americana but now it seems I dont, was labeled that way from rural king. This bird is one of my originals, a year & a half old now, lays a light green egg. yellow/white bird. Usually its the bird that starts something, so naturally this bird got the name troublemaker. She lays eggs most days, Here are a few pictures- “troublemaker “ and her egg.

I just bought 2 lavender Amercauna pullets. Hatched on July 19 - 3 months old. The seller said they were sexed hens and she got them at one day old from crackle hatchery. I have a feeling the are boys. What do you think. I’ve only had them a couple days.

Ugh, they look like boys. My girls who are about 5 months don't have red combs yet. The two boys I got do.😑

That front of the first photo one looks to have sharp saddle feathers coming in. It's hard to tell on the other, but yeah, there's at least one boy, and the other one looks like a male as well. Bummer.

I have a few questions about Ameraucaunas:
  • What kind is the chick in the attached picture?
  • Are they good egg layers?
  • How do they usually fall in the pecking order?
If I get one it will be living with an Orphington and an Australorp. Would they get along?
