The American Cemani Breeders Club...open forum

I talked to someone once who said they got some eggs from Banko. He was telling them that he had had them since the beginning, before the ban, and had bred them himself until they were as good as they are. The person I talked to said though that they "were sworn to secrecy" which seems odd to do if he had the birds legally, and that he was describing them as having very different plumage than the other lines in the country, almost like hair over the bird's neck and shoulders. This person had been sent 3 eggs by him. And he told this person that the original birds "weren't even supposed to be in the USA" which does not sound very legal to me. It was also said by this person that the reason he doesn't sell them is because they are his chickens and he "doesn't want them to get out". So that's all I know about it.

Yup, there's that, too. Like I said, it just raises more questions. It just doesn't add up. And they are getting out there because he is making a mint off them and he is putting them out there. From what I've seen, they are good looking birds, but they still have the same issues and flaws as everyone else's AC.

This line is one reason people are now claiming that GFF AC are mixed, and that only "real" AC are hard feathered with dull sheen. No greens or blues or purples allowed.

I just added more to that post after going back and rereading my message with that person:

"It then came out from the person I was talking to when they wanted to sell these birds to me later that they were actually out of birds imported from Indonesia only one year before, which would have been 2014, so definitely after the ban."

So there's that.

LOL! The only way to keep a secret is to not tell ANYBODY. The truth will come out.

A friend sent me this picture. I do not know the source of this photo. I have been told that the black specks on the inner membrane is how you can tell if your Cemanis are the "real deal". I have never seen this personally, either in my eggs or purchased eggs. Has anyone seen this in their Cemani eggs?

Thank you, everyone, for all that info... great discussion... the ethical side of all that does bother me... although we all want good genetic diversity and as much towards the original type as possible, I think having that ethical line is important as well...

You know, I've been thinking about all that... I looked through all those pics of pure Indo examples... and from what I saw, even in the pics that people said it showed the flat, matte black, in spots I could still see sheen... anyone can work with lighting to show sheen or hide sheen, not saying they did but it's possible...

Also, on a lot of the differences in how they look, I wonder how much the diet makes a difference as well? I hear all the time from people posting that their feed options in different countries are much different than what is available in the US... heck, I see huge differences in other breeds just depending on what brand of feed people use or the base ingredients... just another thought... maybe I'm way off base, but I felt it was something to consider...

Haven't seen that at all... but that's not saying much, lol... :D

I don't believe I've ever seen that in my eggs. I'm not sure how that would prove they're 'real' - it's not like pigment from the chick would rub off on the membrane, lol, that's not how it works. Sounds to me like it's another wave of hysteria about purebreds and mixes, just like when the breed first came on the market here. Hopefully it will die down.

If you look at the picture of the cockerel on cemani farms' Live Stock page, a farm that is in Indonesia (and is probably where these birds were illegally imported from since they will ship anywhere in the world with no permits) you can clearly see he has a green sheen in his tail and throughout his body. That's a bird in Indonesia from an Indonesian breeder. So
