They are not perfect and will be priced that way.
but the are fully capable of breeding perfect black because they are pure cemani.

I had one fm pullet with white feathers. She was beautiful. She was from Hmong breeders but she passed

Cool. since I have a cemani male and Hmong pullet, hopefully I'll get a white feather bird in the future

Silkies can be all white, and they have one copy of the FM Gene.

Boykin I do not understand this statement.
Do you mean feather color or skin color? Either way can't figure out what you mean.

As the feather color genes are inherited separately from the skin pigment genes you can have white feathers on a FM bird.
But in the case of regular white silkies (not all the the paint though- they can have an autosomal dominant form of white inheritance) the white is recessive so need 2 copies of the gene for the bird to have white feathers. I know this because I made the mistake of using white birds instead of black as a base for making mottled silkies and it took 2 generations to get rid of the recessive white.

You can therefore have 2 totally black birds that produce white offspring. In fact 1 in 4 would be white in that case.

Some plumage genes can however affect skin FM expression, and mottled happens to be one of those making it pretty much impossible to have a totally black skinned true mottled bird, as the skin will have mottled patches.

If you are referring to skin color, why would pure bred silkies have just one copy of the FM gene? They get them from both parents??

As Turtle Man would say,, Come Get You Some. LOL

Since this is a ayam cemani thread I think I will post some ayam cemani eggs.

Is it too late for me to join in on the Cemani discussions on this thread? I just received my Ayam Cemani group yesterday from Michael Bean. I know they are not perfect, but it is a starting point. I also have some eggs set in the incubator right now, that I am hoping will have black tongues as mine from him are all tan except one which is grey.
