I have cleaned up this thread and edited heavily. Anyone can feel free to steer this thread by sharing and posting info that is relevant and educational.

You don't need a new one at this time.

All of the lines have their issues, Toni's, GFF, and Mike's. I have culled a few worse looking birds myself from Toni's line. And also, I have seen two different pictures from two different people that their GFF cockerel's are getting silver in their necks. So my point is, all of the lines have their issues and it's up to us to fix these issues and it is going to take us all working together that want to get these birds to be as black and as good as we can. It can be done with lots of culling and breeding the best to the best. Some lines may take longer and then again it may happen faster than we think.

Tonight is lockdown for my latest generation of Ayam Cemani. I have 6 Ayam Cemani and 9 Svart Hona in this incubator.

I love mid-week hatches. Most of my hatches happen on the weekends so that I can ship on Monday or Tuesday. But these are all for me to watch them grow up.

Great and good luck on your hatch.

Thanks Randy. I have this incubator and another one hatching 4 days later. I am also filling a third one full of AC and Svart eggs today. That should give me about 40-50 (assuming an average hatch rate) Ayam Cemani chicks to grow out. That should be enough to find out if any previous issues still exist. But I think that is it for the year because I need a break.

Remember...... pictures are alwsys enjoyed!

Randy or DC and anyone else, have any of you guys ever hatched any chicks that was perfectly black outside, even when it grew up, but lacked the black mouth and tongue features?

Yes, I have around 15 pullets right now that are all black even their vents, but the inside of their mouths and tongues are normal.

They should all have the black mouths as specified in both the Dutch and Indonesian Standards (depending upon which standard you are using). The black tongue is only specified in the Indonesian Standard but not mentioned at all in the Dutch Standard. And since all of the lines in the U.S originate from Europe where the tongue is not specified, it is something that every line is going to have to cull for in the future.

I would worry more about the toe nails, feathers, face, comb, wattles, mouth, and ear lobs being black first. I think that is enough work for most people for generations, depending upon their line. You can work on the black tongue later.

My guess is a Cemani with the black tongue will win at show over one that lacks a black tongue but is otherwise perfect, even if the Dutch standard or whatever standard is being used for the show doesn't even mention it.
