I have 7 separate lines of FM birds that I work with right now. All are kept in separate pens in trios or breeding quads with multiple pens for each line with the exception of #2 which is just a single group all raised landrace in one pen.I might consider it. Details please. What lines do you have?
1. My main line started as Toni-Marie Astin. But at this point, I have culled and made so many generations down the line that I won't call it her line anymore. I made choices she may or may not have made. So in all fairness, I now refer to that line as my line. They have improved quite dramatically.
2. I also have the original Toni-Marie Astin line that I keep in a separate pen and raise landrace.
3. Plus I have a line of Ayam Kedu, and my line of Svart Hona (unrelated to Greenfire).
4. A few months ago I added Greenfire's Svart Hona.
5. I also keep a birchen (silver) color of Cemani. But that project will take generations to stabilize.
6. Plus I am importing a completely unrelated line of Ayam Cemani to the U.S. I plan on giving those eggs away for free to current customers and releasing chicks for sale of that line in the Spring.
7. And of course the Smithies which are Mike's line. It is Mike's line that I am giving away for free. All my other lines remain separate, however, I have considered mixing in some of the larger culls from my other lines. The idea is to create a dual-purpose black meat bird that the chicks can be sold for a very low price $5 or whatever the market wants. All the other lines are so focused on being show perfect. But the Smithies will be for a black meat bird. So emphasis will be on getting the skin dark pigmented but the feathers can be whatever color (or several colors).
