The American Paint Silkie

Ok! You asked for it! These are from the last couple hatches. I only have one paint hen at the moment, so my hatches are very staggered. These chicks were hatched between 12-23-11 and 1-7-12. Not getting huge spots, but I do have one that has black in the foot feathering, and another that has a gorgeous vault. I have a couple older ones that have already moved to the coop. I also discovered yesterday that one of the chicks that hatched out solid white on Dec 7 has developed some spots! I knew they could do that, but so far all of my white ones had remained white. Hoping some more follow suit!

These guys are not as smutty as my camera makes them out to be. There are a couple that have more of yellow under fluff, but so far all the feathers are coming in white (or black). Getting a few with pigment holes, in the toes especially, but they seem to close up pretty fast. The nails don't seem to get darker, but at least the toes darken up.

Here's a shot of the 3 youngest by themselves....

They are so cute and it is good to know that some of the spots could develop later as they age. I have two paint eggs in my incubator now they are active on day 12 hope they make it to hatch.

Please forgive my ignorance regarding this variety. I have not read through the entire thread. I have just hatched 4 eggs labeled, "Paint." The results have me a bit baffled. One looks almost, as I read it described somewhere in here, "champagne?" I think???? Or is this something else? It is not white. One is black, and two are sorta whitish with a kinda buff color mixed in. My eggs came from CatDance Silkies.

Beautiful chicks. Paints don't breed true so you could hatch out all sorts of colors. I have gotten Paints from Elite Silkies and I hatched out blue, black, and a off gray color along with Paints.

I have some Catdance silkies and I hatched one paint and she is beautiful...I LOVE my catdance babies...I don't think you will like them so i'll send you my adress and you can just send them over to me...lol...

Oh, I am sure I will like them. I am just confused as to what the colors I am getting. Another egg hatched, labeled "W" for white. The chick looks to be a buff (but is still wet). Honestly, I don't care what I get, but I am leg banding them according to what the egg is labeled, and I am confused.

Sometimes the chicks will appear to have a yellowish hue, but the feathers come in white. Also, some paint chicks don't show spots until later. Paints are quite interesting! I'm certain you'll be happy with them too. Catdance has beautiful silkies!

This is Jack, our Paint rooster that we got from Sandy at Bat Cave Silkies. He's the top cock in our Silkie pen.
Very dominant and in charge of all the girls (and the boys too!) We're hoping for some little Jacks and Jills
soon!

Ok so i hatched my first paint silkie of my own today was so excited, i also hatched a baby from black hen & paint roo that is jet black with a big white splotch on the side of it's head is kinda funny.
