The American Paint Silkie

So many cute babies! I had my very first paint chick hatch this morning I am so excited I think they are beautiful.
I really can't wait to see that reverse paint baby feather out Shayna please keep us updated with pictures.
Congratulations all on the new babies.

OK...so I was at the Nth Georgia Poultry Show today and I was standing watching the judging of all the silkies and I turned to the lady standing next to me and asked if she had any silkies showing..AND it was actually Judy Lee I was talking to

. She had 6 paints 'exhibiting' at this show and while we were talking her little black silkie hen won 1st place

We got talking and she spent about an hour showing me what you should look for in a prize winning silkie and how to breed for a perfect 'type'...she was awesome and as I am a total newbie I learned a lot about the silkie.

Thank you Judy..it was a pleasure meeting you!

oh and as I was a bit 'star struck'...lol...I forgot to take any pictures...

Lucky, lucky duck you. Wish I could have been there, but that would not even be possibly since I'm in Missouri not Georgia.

OK guys, need a little help here. I've been hatching some paints. Out of one of the first batches I hatched, I have this one chick that was born white, but started developing spots after about 3 weeks. Then "she" started developing more spots, but they are red! So now I have a Tri-colored paint. Has this ever happened to anyone before? Is this something I should cull, or should I keep it and see if I can reproduce it? I think it's cool looking... here are some pics....

What do you think? Anyone have anything like this?? When the first red spot showed up, I thought somebody pooped on her, but then there were more and more until I finally picked her up to see what was going on. The red seems to be just on the tips of the feathers right now, not all the way down the shaft like the black spots.

Is it just really dark leakage??
