The American Paint Silkie

Pics
They had the pinkish color on the tips of some of the toes but I didn't notice any pigment breaks in the skin color but
I really didn't look. It will be interesting to see how they turn out. We really can't figure any other way she could have got them other than from your boy so????

Here is my paint chick with the naked neck gene. It has 5 toes and dark black skin. I will update yall with another picture when the chick is completely dried. Its only sibling is all black with 6 toes on each foot. LOL It looks funny! This chick came from paint X paint breeding too. Let me know what yall think of this chick.

LOL I know! Ahh well.... I already have 2 started paints in the coop anyways. I will use the vaulted chick with the paint gene to breed to my actual paints. That should darken them up a little bit and maybe even give me more paints than breeding to pure black? Does this color commonly hatch out of paintXpaint or paintXblack breedings? What color do you think he will mature out to be? Partridge?

Yea it looks like it will be partridge but ya never no lol...
I have heard that several breeders are useing white with the paints and not getting so many off color chicks.
I am going to move some birds around and try it and see if I don't get more paint chicks and not so many blk ones.

You think I should breed it to some pure paints or only stick with pure black? The paints I have are kind of light. When bred to white, do the black spots get smaller or stay the same?

I would use some whites too. Won't hurt to try and they are getting good results so???
I don't no what happens with the spots but they are getting them.

Paints are too new to know for absolute certainty what will hatch. I bred my paint to recessive whites, when they first hatched they looked more like little appaloosas than paints. Multiple light spots. When they lost their baby fluff large patched of black began to appear. None of these chicks have pigment holes, which is nice. But only time will tell when the molt in to their adult feathers whether they will keep their black patches.

BTW, it is not recommended to breed F1's back to paint just yet. The Silkie characteristics are just not strong enough yet.
