The American Paint Silkie

Pics
It's in the 2nd section on paints. I skimmed until I found it (knew I'd read it), but ddn't really do more than skim through it this morning. I really have to re-read the section on splash paints, as it sounds like they are like splash and paint combined.

Has anyone took two solids from paint breeding and bred them together to see if they could get paints?

Here is where I think a potential problem with paints could be amplified breeding two solid color F1's together, pigment holes. A breeder did breed two solid whites from a paint breeding, they hatched with all pink skin and now that they are maturing are showing very red combs. The skin darkened over time but the combs remained red.

The paints in the US have not moved far away from the genetics of the fowl that was used to bring in Dom white. Its going to take a few generations to achieve more consistency in skin color, eye color, type, and paint color.

Well what if you take a F1 and breed it to a black silkie that does not have paint in its background could you get paints with dark skin and combs?

I don't think any one knows that answer yet.

The issue remains if type and feathering and all of the other positive Silkie qualities are lacking in the F1 what is produced could turn out pretty awful.

Okay my paint showgirl egg hatched and the color is weird. It is nearly all black with a yellow head, yellow wings, and yellow feet. I wonder what color it will be when mature. It's soaking wet now so I can't really tell if it has a naked neck. I don't think so though. It came from Mr. Jerry Schexnayder so its definitely paint. Looks kind of reversed paint! It even has a little vaulted skull. I have one more fertile paint egg in there and it has pipped already!
