Someone, please tell me how you would know if it is a Paint or a Splash? I have a pair, or at least I hope is a pair. I thought they were called splash. Now, I see the pictures of Paint and I am really confused. Help!!
In paints you will find entire feathers that are black or white, very few that are partially black and partially white. Also, the base colouring is WHITE, not a light blue or even darker slate. Unless blue has been bred into them, the spots will be black, not diluted. You will find some with a champagne-coloured background instead of white.
Read here and there , in order to increase the size of spots and to prevent dilution of the spots alltogether one has to mate paint to black. Let me repute this claim and say, total nonsense. Below are pics of a 4th generation pullet, from paint to paint matings. Not only are the spots getting larger, and more wide spread, black feathers are showing up on the wings and toes.
I would LOVE to get some silkies from you I think you have the nicest Paints around! Do you have any for sale? I am looking for 5 silkies 1 roo and 4 pullets if you have anything for sale please let me know!
If only you people were closer!
I probably won't be able to get a paint hen from a breeder though. I'll just have to keep going to the auction, I could probably get a hen of any color for maybe $7-$10. Possibly even less than that. Mother would kill me if I spent too much on one chicken..
She was not very happy when I spent $20 on a rooster, who wasn't even showable. I learned of side springs.
