I have a quick question for all you paint breeders. It doesn't so much pertain to silkies as to paints. I am trying to see if I understand how the gene works.
Paint shows up when you cross an "incomplete"? dominant white to black or dominant black? I am asking this just because I have 2 cornish cross hens that I grew out to get some eggs and hatch out a few babies to grow out. I only like to have like 10 meat birds at a time. So I have hatched all of their eggs and the last chick that hatched came out with a few black spots of fluff. I thought I was seeing things until the feathers started coming in and now there are some black feathers as well. I assume that this particular chicks dad is my black jersey giant roo who didn't get to breed often until my golden comet roo became fox food.
So if I understand correctly if he breeds that same hen again I will continue to get paint chicks? I love the color and to have it pop up on my property without even trying is funny.
Thanks for your time!
