The Annoyance of Selling Birds: Cheap People

Quote:
I would pay at least that for your chicks, if you would just be kind enough to move out here to the PNW so that we could get some. Pretty please?

Here it is the opposite, people are more than willing to pay. There is a woman just north of me that is selling 7 week old pullets for $15 and 7 week old EE pullets for $20. And she's getting it, too. These are just hatchery birds that she buys huge numbers of and raises up to that age before selling them off at 5x the price. It's just fine that she does it, if people are impatient and don't want to raise them themselves to the point where they can be outside, it must be worth it for them.

I wonder if they know that they can get started pullets from mcmurray hatchery for $12.95? With shipping that drives the cost up to $45 or $50 for a few birds! They are getting a deal!!!

I bought some white crested blue polish eggs off ebay that cost £25 inclucding shipping I hatched 7 and kept them till 2 weeks then offered them for sale,it was the enjoyment of the incubating, a chap drove 200 miles for them then said he wasnt sure if they were pure and didnt want to spend ALL that money if they turned out to be cross he was worried a couple had one or two white wing feathers at 2 weeks old,I was only asking £25 for the lot and the eggs had been bought off a top reliable breeder

Well, there are a lot of cheap people out there...I've found I can actually get $8 a chick if they are not started on medicated feed and they are "heritage" breeds. If they are adult, nice breeding birds (rare breeds) I can sometimes get $50 a piece. Other times, people don't respond back or when they do, they say rude or hurtful things about my prices. I just ignore them.

I sold a guy an old hen out of my yard for $5. He called back and wanted chicks, which I consistently get $2 each for and he said "I could almost buy an adult for that!" I didn't back down and he went elsewhere. If you are getting a consistent price for your birds, there is no reason to lower it for cheapskates.

I went to a poultry auction on Saturday and an Easter Egger hen went for $42. I was shocked! Everything else was going for $2-3 each. It was sad. You can't even buy chicks for that price.

how much for a 16-18 week BO roo or pullet? how about for a RIR roo or pullet same age-how much would anyone expect to pay-thats what I have-and thats what I puprposly have for meat and eggs-never sold any before so just curious how much people pay for those-
