Winter was getting closer to the coyote..
But there was.. something else. A faint scent, but a familiar scent.
He raised his head, trying to catch the smell on the breeze..
He stopped. His mind knew it was there, yet he couldn’t see- he barked once, loudly.
“ yes i agree….” Shira responded, but her attention had been diverted. One loud bark echoed through the forest. Suddenly the scent made sense, along with the bark she new who it was. “ Winter?!” She thought to herself in disbelief. “ No, that’s impossible…..” She tried to tell herself, but her feet were already moving, Shira ran unsteadily past the coyote and into the shadows of the forest. “Winter….” She whispered to herself, Climbing atop a Boulder and seeing a figure maybe a hundred feet away."That's rough." Macaw replied. "A bad storm on my Pack." Macaw looked down remembering how bad it was and everything he had gone through. He tilted his head up and added, "You're lucky to have escaped unharmed."
Macaw watched Shira leave. He hadn't noticed the bark in the distance, so he wasn't sure what was going on. He decided it was probably important to Shira, but none of his business, so he went on his way.“ yes i agree….” Shira responded, but her attention had been diverted. Macaw sniffed the ground as he went. Then he remembered something that he had been working on back at his secret den. He picked up his pace and headed that way. He stopped really quick and thought about Shira as he looked back the way he had came.Shira glanced back, feeling slightly bad for leaving so suddenly, but when the dark figure came into the moonlight, all her attention was drawn toward him and only him.

Shira jumped down from the boulder, tackling her old friend to the ground, barking happily. She nuzzled her old playmate. “Winter! Oh, I’m so happy to see you…” she said, unable to keep her emotions from bubbling over. She inhaled sharply, trying to keep from crying as the tears welled up.The shadowy shape suddenly bolted towards Shira.
“Shira?” A familiar voice called. The once-thought-dead Winter stopped in front of her. He smiled happily, his tail wagging furiously.
“Shira! It is you!”
The German Shepherd was thinner and had a share of scars, but that did nothing to reduce his joy.
Winter licked her face happily. “Shira! Oh my gosh, your not dead! I was worried something had got you!”Shira jumped down from the boulder, tackling her old friend to the ground, barking happily.
