Catching his breath, he said “I was worried about you. Are you ok?”
"Oh." Hilina replied. "Yes, I am. I met Jock." She motioned towards Jock.

"Hey, strangah." Jock commented. "Long time, no see?"

"Ok, ok." Gerald whispered back. He moved quickly until he figured he was out of sight.
Stumbling awkwardly with his stubby pup legs, Rusty followed Gerald behind a holly bush. "Whew!" He panted, thinking that just because his father couldn't see them that he couldn't hear them either.

"Shh!" Gerald quickly hushed Rusty. He started off again on their adventure. Not really paying attention to where he was going, Gerald accidentally slipped on a small piece of ice and slid into some mud getting covered in it. He yelped in terror of the dark brown stuff that he was now stuck in.

Rusty wined anxiously as he padded back and forth along the perimeter of the mud puddle. "Stay still." Rusty told him, "I'm going to try to pull you out." With that, Rusty leaned over the wet goo and grabbed Gerald's scruff in his mouth. "Al-ost." He tried to talk through his brother's fur. Then, Rusty tried to pull, but promptly slipped into the mud himself.

Gerald tried to listen. Panic was trying to overtake him though. Just then, Blazer, their father appeared. Apparently he had heard the two pups, or had seen they had left. With ease, he gently picked both the pups out of the mud. Gerald was grateful, but could tell his father wasn't happy.
