Winter shivered when the cold breeze managed to penetrate his thick coat again. If he were back home, he would’ve been indoors. But now, it was just cold.
His black K9 vest did little to stave off the wind, though it was covered in dirt. It read ‘Winter’ in white, well what WAS white, lettering on one side, and ‘K9’ on the other side, along with a police patch.
He probably would’ve been able to take it off, but he didn’t want to. It was the only thing that reminded him of his owner and his partner, Shira.
He wished they'd stayed together.
Winter sniffed through the thick leaf carpet on the ground. It was musty and slightly damp. He could smell that there had been a rabbit here, but the scent was stale now.
The German Shepherd huffed, his ribs showing through his dirty, tangled coat. Prey was getting scarce, and hunting was bad enough as it was with his skills.
