I've checked her vent because I suspected she might have laid an egg yesterday and didn't see any white in that area, but I haven't looked anywhere else on her. She's pretty chill so it shouldn't be hard to look her over tomorrow if I remember to.

Can't give a clear answer.

Mine (First hen) changed rapidly, about 3 months is completed change. So, August 24th to November 18th is the total length of change.

Do you still think it's hetero mottling on my bird or are you now thinking it could be something else?

Oh, I did remember to look my pullet over this morning and she has no white on her anywhere in her underfluff, either. So it's just Mack with the white feathering, at least so far.

I still believe it's heterozygous mottling

Good to know! So does that mean he's likely to molt out these white feathers as he matures, or do birds heterozygous for mottling sometimes keep their partial mottling despite it being a recessive gene?

He will keep the partial mottling

Well mine apparently had a recessive gene. Everyone else is normal besides those silly pheonixes
