The "Ask Anything" to Nicalandia Thread

I've also seen this posted a few times over the years, a chicken, usually black or mostly black, gradually growing whiter with each molt like they've suddenly run short of pigment or something. It's also pretty common in Cayuga ducks. Not sure the genetics behind it if it is genetic, but it's not an unheard of phenomenon or anything. I would suspect since it's so common in Cayugas that there would be more answers there if you were wanting to research it more.
She's not only white, but the black is diluted blue in some areas.

I've had a 6yr old hen get a few white feathers, but that can be normal for the Elderly.

I can't comment on whether it's something genetic or not, as most of the birds I've seen were in all-female flocks and never bred or hatched from. Should be interesting to see what happens with her offspring, albeit a bit of a test of patience if it took her 2 years to have anything show up. 😅

She's always had one white wing feather on each wing. Since she was a chick. Never thought anything about it until now.

Patients is something I have lots of.

It seems like spangling to me.. But it could also be Mottling. both might look identical
Or leakage.

Pictured is a partridge Brahma with the same pattern but in gold.

In that case, no shortcut to figuring out her genes. It's back to guessing, or breeding her, or breeding more from her father.
Question.

Should I breed the Black hen to a solid rooster, or Barred? Was thinking about breeding her to a solid rooster, but not sure it'll show anything.
