Only Old English Game I have is the Bantam variety.https://livestockconservancy.org/heritage-breeds/heritage-breeds-list/cornish-chicken/

Same story, two sources, and I know I've read it elsewhere as well.
Very brief form: someone in England tried to improve their local gamefowl by crossing in the oriental ones. They were hoping for a better fighting bird, but that's not what they ended up with (not good for fighting).
Just use your meaty Orientals and cross it with Dual Purpose European type birds(like RIR, BR) and you will get there much fasterI want to attempt to recreate the Cornish Game, if I can't buy some. A back up plan.
I no longer have RIRs, I do have Heritage Plymouth Barred Rocks though.Just use your meaty Orientals and cross it with Dual Purpose European type birds(like RIR, BR) and you will get there much faster
That will work.I no longer have RIRs, I do have Heritage Plymouth Barred Rocks though.
I know them crossed to Buff Orpington made a good meaty bird. With a live weight of 7.10lbs.That will work.
It's not about weight, but about conformation. Broad and meaty breasts on 5 pound birds are preferable than a 7 pound bird with sharp breast boneI know them crossed to Buff Orpington made a good meaty bird. With a live weight of 7.10lbs.
I just included weight. His breasts were good, & full. Breast bone was only slightly visible. It's not about weight, but about conformation. Broad and meaty breasts on 5 pound birds are preferable than a 7 pound bird with sharp breast bone
