The "Ask Anything" to Nicalandia Thread

is this an actual color pattern or just messy Easter Egger leakage? Her hackles are a faded dusty light blue gray. I was thinking it looked sort of Splash Wheaten? She’s so pretty! Thanks!
Just Easter Eggers being EEs, giving their owners nice color surprises due to them being heterozygous for just about every color and pattern.

Question. @nicalandia

How do I mellow out the Gamey Attitude of my Project Giant Silkies? My rooster Floof keeps pummeling my Sumatra rooster, who I may have to end up removing(Rehome, or Eat), to stop this. The Sumatra fights back, but loses, & keeps getting walloped by Floof.

The hens the project produced are also pretty feisty.

Should I breed in a certain breed too control this, or leave as be?

This is the first time I hear that a Silkie/Silkie cross are that Ornery. Specially coming from the two of the mellowest breeds I have worked with, Silkies and Brahmas. I would just continue with the work you are doing. Those project birds are not the end goal just a means to get there.

Mine aren't the "normal" silkies apparently :p . I breed mine, & raise mine to be more on Guard/Alert then those bred for shows. That trait even passed to a couple Blue partridge Silkies pullets, Showstock rooster X My LF Silkie line. Those girls are even feisty.

Thanks, I'll just doing what I'm doing then.

I can see that being a Plus for the Homestead backyard. Being alert and stand their ground against more frugal breeds.

Mine are all Show type mellow and will likely be killed by a straight cat if given the chance.

Yep, that's my goal. Making them less vulnerable.

Here's my next breeder boy.

He has red leakage in his wings, but what color is this showing his tail?
It's a smokey, silver/blue type color I haven't really seen before.

Could my boy be expressing Khaki? It's the only thing that fits the color shade in his tail. I've also found more of the coloration on his body. It's hard to see, unless you look at him closely(In real life).

What does the Down of a chick that's Khaki looks like?

Here's a molted wing feather from the mother of the black hen that's changing color. Part of the reason I believe she is the one that passed this trait down.(Mother is Cuckoo)
That might be the case, but I really don't know for sure.

This is not something I have read about or personally experienced, so the most I can do is the guesses I've already made.
