The "Ask Anything" to Nicalandia Thread

Is it difficult to breed out comb disqualifications? Or will they carry over to all the children? For example, I have a Belgian d’Anver cockerel who would make an excellent breeder but his rose comb spike looks to be splitting into two spikes…will all his babies have this issue or can breeding with a good hen help get rid of it? Should he be a cull or can I use him without compounding my problem in more generations?

I have a few odd questions but I don’t know who else to ask so here it is. I have 2 EE in my flock, one Rooster, one hen. I hatched them from local fertilized eggs. He is my only rooster. I do not know if they were hatched from the same hen but they definitely have the same dad. I was told they are Blue Amerucauna Rooster with Isabel Amerucauna Hens. They both hatched from blue eggs. My hen just started laying and she lays lovely little blue eggs.

My question is what are the dangers of incubation her fertilized eggs in the future if they share a dad and may share a mom? If it is okay to breed them will they have blue eggs if they are from the birds they say they are from?

I have pictures of both birds. My rooster has a lot of ”blue” but red on wings and gold neck And saddle feathers. The hen is almost all black with a few white speckles on her neck.

All of my other girls lay brown eggs, if they bread with my rooster will they have a mix of eggs?

Will all of his offspring have a beard, is that dominant?

I will have to get a better picture of the rooster tomorrow, here is a couple weeks ago front view. The black one is my hen.

Sharing the same parents won't hurt a thing. Inbreeding is commonly used in Showlines. If you're breeding siblings, & Siblings from those siblings too far, you can run into fertility problems, so that's when you'll have to add new blood, or start some line breeding/Breeding back to parents. Grandparents are occasionally used in line breeding.

Going back to my question about breeding my OEGBs up in size. I don't think the Red JungleFowl will work. At full size JungleFowl roosters are 3¼lbs, & hens 2¼lbs. So, I may have to go the Sumatra route, & maybe add in some Red JungleFowl, too fix leg length, & body type.

I will probably breed in some of my JungleFowl hybrid for helping with keeping size, they're about American Game sized, so larger then actual JungleFowl.

How many generations do you think it would take to get to my goal?

Barred X BB red = Crele, right?
Um, sort of.

Barring gene on Black Breasted Red is Crele, yes.

But if you cross a Barred chicken (white barring on black) with a Black Breasted Red, you will typically not get Crele chicks. You will typically get black chicks with white barring, or if the barred parent is the mother you will get barred sons/black daughters.

So not really. Good! Maybe I can get rid of my BB red OEGB now!
What is the crele recipe?
