I think black or black barred with leakage.. If it's the partridge male over the barred female, chicks are sex-linked and males will have a white head spot at hatch, then barring later on while females are plain black, but if the male parent is barred I think all chicks end up barred, unless he's single-barred in which case 50% black and 50% barred black. I imagine the chicks will also have feathered feet, but not as much as the cochin parent.

Oh cool! How about partridge Cochin x barred Plymouth Rock?

Partridge Cochin Rooster X Barred Rock hen = Males with headspots, & are also Gold/Silver split.

Females will be Black, with gold leakage. But will hatch mostly black.


Barred Rock rooster X Partridge Cochin = 100% Barred males, & Females. They'll have either, gold, or silver leakage.

In this case though, they're asking about crossing a Barred Plymouth Rock, so the roosters always would be Double Barred. Which would result in 100% barred offspring.

A single Barred male, such as a black Sex-link, would produce 25% Solid Females, 25% Barred Females, 25% Solid Males, & 25% Single Barred Males

They lay pretty well, just not like your Barred Rock, or Buff Orpington.

They lay every other day, but sporadically, occasionally they take a week long break before laying again

I wouldn't call that laying schedule more than fair at best. Especially if the eggs aren't grade Large or Extra Large.

We mustn't let our love of a particular breed cause us to make excessive claims.

For example, I think that my Australorps lay well -- 6 days out of 7 in their first year unless they go broody. But they don't compare to a production-breed bird like my California White -- who laid 28 days out of 30 in her first year and 6 days out of 7 in her second year.

Best to promote them for their top strengths.

I admit that I don't know what Malays' top strengths are -- since I have little interest in the entire class of game chickens. But I'm sure they have unique features that may well deserve more promotion so that people can better understand them.

I just like how they look. But I've read that just like aseels and games, the male's can't be housed together

IMO, that is a 100% valid reason to choose a particular breed.

I like feathered feet (though, of course, my Australorps don't have them).

"Lays pretty well" is a fairly subjective term, of course, but it implies a bird that will pump out plenty of eggs.

3-4 eggs a week with periodic breaks doesn't fit the implication of a regular and generous supply of eggs.

Nice big eggs are a definite plus. I'm aiming for 60-70g eggs in my flock.
