The "Ask Anything" to Nicalandia Thread

Hi Nic, please help identify the genotype. planning to purchase this asil rooster, seller's photo. He is S/S ilver, Co or Db if birchen included, correct? can the e-locus be identified if duckwing, wheaten, partridge or birchen? Thanks. The tail color is a mystery to me what gene would cause such color? already asked if seller has pics of the parents; waiting for reply.

@konachicks at 10 days the new cock should be the father of most of the chicks, two weeks is practically guaranteed no cross parentage.

Untrue.

I used to have several black hens who were proof that the semen could survive even past 3 weeks.

Why Are We Black?

Interesting. The dead men books generally hold to that timeline, especially if the cock is replaced instead of simply removed. Sperm of rose combed breeds lives a shorter period, and single comb sperm the longest.
But that is a generalization. Not 100% all the time.

Wow !! Didn’t know it could be that long!

As you can see in that thread, genetically retaining the sperm past 3 weeks was the only possibility to get black (split-to-lavender), from the birds in the flock. :)
