This is a rooster with young silkies though they aren't chicks. Typically you can't put roosters with chicks because they will kill him.

You have the wrong rooster. Lol. A good rooster will usually ignore them, a better rooster will indulge them.

If you have chicks from a broody, then a descent rooster won’t kill his chicks for sure. Many roosters support broodies and take care for the chicks.
But you do need space. It often doesn’t work out nicely in a cramped coop/run.

Proof that good roosters exist. I gave him to a friend a few years ago. He is still helping to raise chicks.
