So cute! Are there Welsummers?

Lovely chicks and a brooder that is actually big enough!

I have read the chicks feel more secure if they have a sheltered area to hide in rather than a wide-open cage. You might want to cover part of one end with a sheet or something so they don't feel so exposed. :)
I thought of doing this too, maybe they will quiet down a little if I covered it a bit! Lol. We’ve done our research for a whiiiiile before getting them- as far as I know so far so good! Going in & out from under brooder, eating, drinking. Do you know if it’s ok if they are touching the brooder with their backs? We noticed they were (maybe they were cold) but then laid flat & weren’t touching it. Wondering if we should raise it a notch, or if it’s perfect for them at this moment.

I've never used a brooder plate, but IIRC, they warm the chicks best when the chicks can touch them with their back. I think a lot of people set the plates up with a slant so chicks can find their best place.

If this is the producers pride plate, be careful! My cord got shifted a little when cleaning the brooder and it shot the temperature up underneath to 122 degrees and did not want to drop! I keep a govee underneath so I can monitor their temperature and I'm so glad I did.
