The babies moved out to the Coop! (Pic Heavy)

Thanks! I have 12 in there and it's 8x8 I am going to try and take some better interior pics today with both doors open!

thats good! i really like it!

I noticed the chicks in the foreground look just like mine. Can you tell us what breed they are? I got mine from the feed store and all they would tell me was they were "manager's choice". I assume that's corporate double-talk for "mutts". I adore them, though, and they're the smartest little twerps I've ever raised. I am guessing they're Ameraucana crossed with Sussex.

The first one with the white on her chest is a speckled sussex and the one behind her is a RIR. Just did my am check and they are doing great, coop temp went down to 50 again last night-so happy they are adjusting well!

I have been thinking about that...my other coop was a pre built and has no added ventilation, we didn't have any issues last winter.

After reading lots of comments here about ventilation, I was considering adding something like this on the peak on the back and possibly the front...

what does anyone think?
thats what my husband used on my chicken tractor, in the winter, it can be semi closed and in the summer opened wide open

I've got to run now but I look forward to any suggestions!

Yes, this is a good idea. Actually there is a formula for how much air should be moved per sq. ft. per hr. to create proper ventilation in a chicken coop.
(Hubby Bob is a retired Respiratory Therapist so I looked that up when we built our coop). We have a 24 sq. ft. coop and use a grate like the one
pictured (with the hardware cloth on the inside of the grate to keep critters out. We use a 4" by 9 " grate for a 24 sq. ft. coop. Here's the formula:

Using the calculations in this publication will help ensure
proper ventilation for health and well-being of small poultry flocks.

ps. screw that thing on tightly so a varmint can't pull it off.

btw...Those vents look good to me...never would have thought of using something like that. Very clever.

Well other than vents...the coop and run are complete!

The little girls are so happy that they can really spread their wings and run! While we were at it we moved the big girls run to address the drainage and added sand! Big grils are happy now too!
