Yeah, I would avoid RIR, which is probably really a Production Red, which don't usually have the best temperaments.I will take the advice and for now keep one of each bachelor roosters I think I have Australorp, BO, welsummer, I don't think I will try and RIR. I will have to look at what roosters there are....
Seriously this sounds ideal. You get to play with and dote on a bunch of fuzzy butts then select your favorites to keep and good deed out the rest. Well done and good karma as well.A diff family just got a new coop, and only had 4 hens and a rooster. I gave them 2, 9 month old hens EE and an OE. Their little girl was happy to get more birds. They may want one of my roosters too, theirs is getting old.
