I brought Peawee in for the day again she is spoiled and walks around, and I clean up after her. I fed her tuna- she loved it, and pork ribs cut up small, she really liked the ribs. She is still little, maybe if she is spoiled, I will make her grow.
The young roos didn't do well with the old hens. They went back into the regular chick pens. I set up a nice self feeding food- and water system for the birds I found on youtube- big and small (separate still) while I was gone 2 weeks in Waikiki. Worked out well! Still had food and water left over! Peawee survived while I was gone too! I will post pics soon too tired yet. They are 11 weeks old! Just went to the feed store and got 6 more chicks for 99 cents each- they got them from Meyer chick bargain. I hopefully chose accidental females again, 3 SS, and 2 australorps, and 1 BO.
I moved the bargain chicks to a new area, a sun room with a covered porch. They are a little unsure- but they have their favorite hut, and a new hut. They are ALL so tame, I will put up a pic of Peawee first, I had started with 32 total, (5 were bought females, 2BR, 2BA, one meal maker) I gave away 16 males, and one male got killed by rough hens. The birds I have left 3-4 males and the others seem to be female (but understand they don't make mistakes. Hehe.) I have 15 total chicks. Below is Peawee, remember we wondered if she was a girl or not. 11 weeks.
Most of the golden ones seem female- maybe one male.
these 3 pics may be the same bird.
feeding frenzy...
I know people think the lamp is not good for birds 11 weeks old. But it is their security blanket. They are in a new location it is cold and rainy today- and freezing at night. The lamp is bolted to the ceiling- you cannot see in the pic- so no preaching. See the fraidy-cats in the corner, couple of weenies.
The all black chicks Austrlorps I believe are males. I have 2.
The welsummer was afraid in her new place. the golden is a diff one than Peawee.
Here are the males I have kept.
Welsummer Seems to pick the most play fights.
2 black australorps The front one is Lance Ito. They don't pick fights but do play fight.
Buff orpington. He doesn't pick fights, but still defends himself. The fighting is play at this point.
and I think this silverlaced wyandotte is a male. He is shy and non-aggressive.
I think of all the boys, and everyone is friendly, I am going to keep the buff. he is the most friendly and looks for attention. This is him again.
I am going to keep everyone until they crow.
below are more random coop picks of the batch...
The above pic is a buff hen from the frypan bargain, and the SLW looking at a frizzle who cannot get to them because of the fence. Below is the SLW and a blue andelusian..
