The BANTAM ORPINGTON Thread

Pics
Two adorable little Bantam Orps just hatched at our house. Thought you might want to see. They're a black and a blue.

Aren't they cute. I don't know why I have an occasional one pop out with yellow legs to begin with. Usually they darken but does anyone else have a clue? The parent stock is isolated (no one jumped the fence.)

Here are photos of the parent stock I have in the breeding quad:

I looking more closely at the chick and it's the toes that are yellow. The legs are dark colored.

Thanks for sharing pics Julieschicks & Majestic!

I just read about that very thing somewhere recently (wish I could remember where??) what it is called when dark birds who should have dark legs/feet are born with the white/pink/yellow expressing. They carry a certain gene that causes it....

Since everyone is sharing pics thought I would share a few from my hatch this past weekend. Some of my choc projects, a choc and some F2 splits for more orp type. Also hatched another gorgeous blue, hoping it laces like it's big sister.

Nice chicks Julie!

just a couple of questions: 1) when is the boys next ball game? 2) is everyone going with you? 3)where is your brooder located?

Seriously, If you decide to sell these, you know where we live!

Lovely chicks, HenThymes.

Jim, the brooder is guarded by an attack cat and a chunky, 8 year old future linebacker. Enter at your own risk.

Thought I would share a couple more pictures of some of my project chocolates that are growing out. I think all together I have 7-8 mostly chocolates and a couple of split cockerels. I would have to look back to see how old they are now, I think they were born the first of the year??

Jim ~ Julie's chicks came from eggs from my house
