The BANTAM ORPINGTON Thread

Pics
My BBS Orps are laying about 5 eggs a week now.

My two main hens went thru a very hard molt. Imagine Fawkes on Harry Potter hard.

They look so small and pathetic.

Anyway, the young pullet has started laying, and I think the other molting two are trying. So since I don't want to eat them, I have been tossing them in the incubator. I actually saw growth at 3 days on one of them!

Honestly, I have had pretty horrible luck with them last year. They would hatch fine, but things kept happening to the chicks. I swear this year I am locking them up like Fort Knox!

Ok enough rambling. I can't wait to see chick pics!

Sending some good hatching vibes your way Comer!!

On another note, my whites are doing GREAT!! Just put 5 more in LD this morning and all look very strong.

Also put several more lavs, slow and go with them as I still hatch quite a few splits but making progress.

Hey everyone, I have a 4Her that is looking for black or blue bantam Orps, either hatching eggs or a pullet or two. Anybody have anything available?? Thanks! :)

The Loft at Holly Lane has some eggs on ebay. Current price is $20.50 and I am the high bidder. We are not going any higher, so have them bid. We will have some when the girls start laying.

The listing is at http://myworld.ebay.com/theloftathollylane They have a good reputation. Thus why I bid on them.

We have some Buff Orpington bantams laying, but our B/B/S just have not yet.

We have one Buff rooster that I want to get some hens for, hens only. So what do I do with extra roosters? I know what I do with my standard roos.

but I can't imagine culling the little guys. Silly question, but do people cull extras?

Yeap, grow out and put in the freezer, rehome or cull.

"Culled" my first Buff Orpington Bantam male in 1982. It was delicious! Made great dumplins!

The best Master Breeders of poultry eats lots of chicken soup!
