The BANTAM ORPINGTON Thread

Countryhen, there is orpington bantams just like the standard orpingtons. They are just smaller. I would think crossing a buff with the colors you mentioned would yield some nice crosses.
Can I have orpington bantams in with standard orpingtons? will they fight/hurt each other due to the size difference? will orpington bantam & my standard orpington fight? what will happen if standard & bantams breed what kind of chicks would I get?

I raise mine together for the first 2 months and then I split them up. The little bantams are tough little guys. If they crosses I would think the stds would be to small and the bantams to big. I have never crossed them There is several std breeders working on big chocs from choc bantams.

Here are my Imported Black Bantam Orpingtons. I have hatching eggs available from them is anyone is interested. I have been hatching from them this winter and my brooders are full!!

They are really pretty TKay.
My Chocs vary in size. I have one little hen or two that are smaller than others and all hatched from same cross. I have some that are bit larger than APA standard. I showed a pullet in Pensacola and she was right next to some of the nicest Buff Bantams and she was the same size.

Don, are they doing that to improve type and color? I dont have room to do these things but always room to learn. Some of those bantams are just amazing type..they have a tidy look ..nice combs ,eyes ,tails ...It must not be that hard to bring the size back up.

We have a pair of juvenile Orpington Bantams

Here are our breeders of our SOP type Orpington Bantams. Our Blacks came from majestic lane (WV) and our Blues came from Dick Hortsman (PA).

Very pretty!! I need to take my camera out and get some recent photos of mine. I have 3 out of 5 now laying and I am going to set their eggs for the Easter Hatch Along. My son is hoping for a little splash hen for 4H.
