@farmhand , my birds are also very young, all under a year old. I'm probably just being impatient, I'm sure they'll want to mother with time. Broodiness is something I'll definitely be breeding for in my line. That said... as soon as I'm ready to start hatching eggs, they'll all probably stop laying and want to hatch chicks!Assuming different breeders have different traits in there birds and I'm looking for broodyness, maybe I shouldn't buy eggs from you. Although your birds look very nice.

Peanutsmomma, I thought you just had BRs.
When it started she basically sat on whatever was in the nest at the time. 7 eggs. DD wants a controlled experiment (eggs from the same source, started at same time, etc) to compare broody vs incubator. We swapped out Cookie's orig 7 for the eggs we bought. Then I just couldn't toss Cookie's eggs she had stolen - especially when 6 had dancing embryos inside. I popped those in my back up incubator & they'll hatch on Easter. DDs experiment will hatch April 12.Thanks for the Cookie update, I was wondering how Queen Cookie was doing. How many are in her clutch?

Candled the incubator eggs last night & most have veining. Hope Cookie's are doing as well. (We'll probably only candle those once since I don't want to disturb her.)
It was 17'F yesterday morning when I checked on Cookie. Didn't seem to matter much to her. To help, I moved a small dish close to her & a chicken nipple right above her head. She seemed to like not having to get off the eggs. So even when she's stuffed in a box in the garage, her servants still do her bidding.
