The Barred Holland

I am curious about these birds as well. Although I wouldnt be able to free range them. I would still like to know more about them.

If you find a good source for them, let us know. So many people have raised them, only to find out their egg color was completely wrong, like they were outcrossed with some other breed way back. The only eggs I've actually seen arent white, but a tannish cream color. Jim Cox used to raise them (jimmy47, I think his handle is). He raised Blue Orps and Barred Hollands, but I've never heard him say what color they laid. I believe he got his from Sandhill Preservation, but not positive.

I'm already dedicated to raising Buckeyes, but it would be nice to also raise a dual-purpose, critically endangered breed that lays white eggs.

I'll look into it and let you folks know what I find.

If anyone else reads this post, here's what I really want to know...

1. Are they flighty? There's an "aweful lot" of Leghorn in them. :) I don't think I could tolerate overly nervous birds.

2. How's their egg production? What size eggs do they lay?

3. Are their eggs true white? We already know that many strains lay "off white" eggs thanks to our friend in Northern Georgia. :)

4. How are the roos typically? Aggressive? Mild?

THANKS!!!!!!

Yep, racking up those brownie points, LOL! I've already sent him the note. He quit breeding the Blue Orps, too, due to health issues, but he may know of who else has the Barred Hollands. At least he can tell me where he got his originally and if they laid the white egg they should.
