The best part of having chickens

I was lonely and bored after moving halfway across the country from my family and simultaneously sending our youngest to college. Chickens have helped me survive. They give me a reason to go into my backyard every single day. Tinkering with their accommodations, watching their antics, and collecting and eating their warm beautiful eggs has added to my quality of life. We are in the midst of our first potential chick hatching by adoptive Momma hen Daisy. The fun, amazement, and life lessons never seem to end!

My flock used to get all the best leftovers but then DH got the piggies. Now they follow him to the pig pen every morning. After a few near muggings, DH and the piggies have learned to share the wealth.

That has been a fear of mine when getting pigs. Our chickens do have their own raised bed in the green house, that we feed them from. They also get fodder everyday. My son really wants some pigs. I cannit imagine feeding them. P.S. Love you avatar's fro. My son wants one that big, but it is about to get twisted and locked, or trimmed down.

All that fro is gone now. She just had her 2nd cranial surgery in September and they cut it all off. I miss that puff ball. It's growing back out but still has a long way to go.

Yes, I could not agree more. We are getting our chicks this sat. And we can't wait. We have spent
Many chilly days getting our beautiful coop ready( even though we will not be putting the chicks in it right away). It is so wonderful to get outside on the warm days. How many chickens do you have..and what kinds?'
