This is my black Orpington pullet, Bones, going into her favorite spot to lay for the day. She starts on the right by looking under the step to see if the “nest box” is occupied.

She is a goofy girl - but not the only one who lays here.

They started because one of my Silver Laced Cochin cockerels had crawled under there and was making soothing noises - ya know the sounds - "ohh this is a great place to lay, this is secure and roomy, very safe and good spot"

I was lucky and in the laundry room (where the door is) and heard him. Then watched out the window as both girls checked out the spot. Course they had to pick the worst steps - could have chosen the one of the newer sets but no-o-o.
